Frequently Asked Questions
What Everyone Wants To Know
For all but our Sparkleberry Swamp tour no experience is necessary. You do not need to know how to swim unless you want to swim at one of our stops. At the beginning of each tour your guide will teach a kayaking 101 class (5 to 10 minutes)to make sure you are familiar with your gear and boat. They will cover how to adjust your PFD and wear it correctly. You will be taught basic kayak paddle strokes as well as how to hold the paddle correctly. They will also teach you how to get in and out of the boat safely and how to make any needed adjustments. You will be informed of conditions on the venue and what you can expect to see on your adventure. When you are on the water you may at any time ask your guide for assistance if you feel the need.
If you cancel 48-hours in advance of your scheduled activity, you will not be charged for the activity. If you cancel less than 48-hours of your scheduled activity, your credit card will be charged the full amount. We have reserved staff and equipment for your activity. Your cancellation means we may have turned away potential clients. If Blueway Adventures, LLC, cancels your scheduled activity due to inclement weather, we will attempt to reschedule your activity for a different date and time. If you are unable to reschedule, you will not be charged a cancellation fee. Safety is our highest priority; if Blueway Adventures determines conditions are not appropriate for your activity, it will be cancelled. We will make every effort to notify you if your activity is cancelled. Blueway Adventures, LLC, has sole discretion to determine when conditions are not appropriate for your activity.
After making your reservation you will be receive a conformation email with a Google map link in it that shows your venue location. Please open and follow link before setting out on your adventure so you have some foreknowledge of where you are going. You may want to print out directions or verify your GPS is taking you the same place.
In your confirmation email will a list of things you may bring to make your adventure more enjoyable. First among those items will be water shoes suited for the season. Late fall thru early spring keeping feet dry and warm are recommended as we wet launch at all venues. Rubber boots or neoprene knee high kayaking boots may be a good investment. Depending on the seasons water temperature, sunscreen, bug spray, or a light jacket may be needed. Cameras or cell phones also come in handy for recording the fun.
Summer time dress for the beach.
Please bring at least one bottle of water at a minimum so you can stay hydrated. We recommend you bring more than one per person on hot summer days. Snacks are always a good idea and depending on the timing of your trip you may have time to eat a light lunch while we are stopped on an island or sand bar.
We will be kayaking where alligators and snakes live and as such are respectful of them and their homes. Forty years of experience has taught us that if we are mindful of them and do no more than take pictures they will ignore us or disappear if we approach to close. Please take pictures and leave only gentle wakes.
Out of respect for your fellow kayakers and the wildlife we will encounter during a kayak trip we ask that you leave your pet home. Our policy is for the safety of your pet and your fellow kayakers.
Some of the most common are herons, egrets, ducks, osprey, and eagles. During the warmer months many of our venues are a birders paradise with many migratory species here to breed. Depending on the season and location you also see white tailed deer or maybe even a racoon or armadillo wandering a beach looking for an easy meal. In some of the more remote places we may even come across small herds of wild hogs. As long as we stay in our boats and interact as little as possible with the wildlife we are perfectly safe.
We like to keep our normal tours to a max of 10 people or less. If you are on a private tour you may have up to 20 people in your group but you will have two to three guides. We like to keep our groups small so the guide can interact with everyone during the trip and everyone can experience the wildlife better.
