Located in the Oakbrook area of Summerville, paddlers will enjoy smooth flowing waters under the emerald green beauty of Tupelos and Oaks on this kayak river tour. Visitors will quickly understand why the Ashley River was designated a South Carolina Scenic River in 1998. Its diverse ecosystems and historic significance blend for an unparalleled kayaking experience.
View turtles sunning on old fallen trees and hear the Kingfishers call while learning about the early settlers of Colonial Dorchester State Historic Site. The river is home to a variety of colorful flowers, river otters, Barred Owls and Red-Shouldered Hawks.
Blueway Adventures tries to offer trips both up and down stream of Howard Bridgman Landing at the new park in Summerville. Due to tides and water flows from up stream we may put in at Herbert H. Jessen Landing at the end of Ladson Road and float up stream with the tide to the park and back.
We hope to offer trips from the upper reaches of the Ashley down to Howard Bridgman in the near furture. There is a new kayak launch scheduled to be built somewhere below HWY 17A. This is a very wild and scenic part of the river every jaded kayaker should see.
