Explore Blackwater Swamps
Visit one of five classic Carolina Black Water Swamps. Water seeps the tannin’s from fallen leaves and needles to turn the water the color of strong tea. The shade and water keep the swamps cooler than the surrounding country side making it comfortable and relaxing. Sparkleberry Swamp, one of the most popular is 16,000 acres of tupaloo and cypress trees with winding creeks and oxbow lakes. Moss hangs from the trees and is used by Ospreys to line their nests.
Explore the areas of South Carolina that are unchanged for 10’s of thousands of years.
